Box 7818, 18th and Master at 2006 hours. Fire under control by order of Car 1 at 2224 hours. New Deal Lumber consisted of numerous one, two, and three-story lumber sheds situated on a triangular lot bounded by 19th Street, Master Street, and Ridge Avenue. Nearly three hundred area residents were forced to flee their homes. Sixty-three homes and buildings were either damaged or destroyed. Companies responding on the ninth alarm were ordered to stretch into the fire, from high-pressure hydrants on Broad Street, five blocks to the east of the fire.
