John J. Cox, February 20th, 1907

On Wednesday, February 20, 1907 at approximately 2:00 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 1458, 2nd & Vine Streets for a fire located in the 6-story corrugated pipe factory of Benjamin Obdyke at 237-39 Bread Street.

Assistant Foreman John J. Cox of Truck 4 climbed through a 5th floor window into an open shaft way and fell into the smoke charged building. He suffered a fractured skull and other severe internal injuries and died shortly after.
