Joseph P. McIntyre, June 11th, 1965
On Friday, June 11, 1965 at 6:20 PM, the first alarm was struck for a spectacular six-alarm fire on Box 6293, 1st floor main lobby Convention Hall, east end of the building, for a fire in the Grand and South Exhibition Hall of the Philadelphia Civic Center, located at 34th Street and Curie Ave. Both buildings were in the process of being demolished by the Cleveland wrecking company.
At 3:30 PM on Sunday, June 13, 1965, while working on the fireground detail at this fire, Firefighter Joseph P. McIntyre of Fireboat 3 collapsed. He was taken to the Philadelphia General Hospital for treatment where he died at 6:30 PM.
