Albert J. Brown, April 23rd, 1954
On April 22, 1954, during his day shift at Engine 13, Fireman Albert Brown was involved in fighting several fires. While he was fighting one of these fires, he suffered chest pains and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. After an examination he was sent back to work, told that it was smoke inhalation and indigestion. While he was fighting another fire later that day, he again suffered chest pains. Again, he was sent to the hospital with the same result. This was repeated a third time. After his shift, Fireman Brown went home. When he did not report for duty the next morning April 23, his Captain went to his home and found that he had died during the night. His death was ruled a heart attack.
Fireman Brown’s son joined the Fire Department on July 2, 1956, and attained the rank of Battalion Chief. He retired on February 2, 1984.
