Thomas R. Vaughan, Sr., March 13th, 1904

Hoseman Vaughan was severely burned on July 18, 1899 while trying to save the life of a woman. He also received an eye injury at another fire on April 26, 1900.

Sometime during the latter part of February 1904, Engine 26 responded to a fire in the vicinity of Jasper and Clearfield Streets. At this fire, at the risk of his own life, Hoseman Thomas R. Vaughan SR, a member of Engine 28, saved a comrade, John M. Smith, a member of Truck 10 from being killed by a falling wall.

While working at this fire, Hoseman Vaughan contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia. Three weeks after the fire, on March 13, 1904, Hoseman Vaughan, while at home, died as a result of this service-connected affliction.

In searching through the records in this manner, it was also discovered that Hoseman Vaughan was severely burned on July 18, 1899 while trying to save the life of a woman. He also received an eye injury at another fire on April 26, 1900.

At the time of his death, Hoseman Vaughan was 34 years old, and was survived by a wife and 3 children.
