Our fallen hero

On July 28, 1854, 20-year-old John Kane, a volunteer with the Moyamensing Hose Company, was running with the hose carriage in the vicinity of 4th and Callowhill Streets, a fight broke out with the Fairmount Engine Company. During the fight young John Kane was severely injured. He died of his injuries on September 16, 1854.
