William Peterson, November 2nd, 1847
On Tuesday evening November 2, 1847, the Western Engine Company was racing down Ridge Road near Callowhill St. A young man of 20 years was on the rope, tripped and fell. William Peterson of the Western Engine Co. was run over by the wheels of the engine. They passed over his abdomen and breast. The internal injuries caused by the accident were so extensive that he expired in about fifteen minutes after the accident.
