Mordecai G. Piersol, April 19th, 1841
While fighting a fire on Type Alley, Mordecai Piersol, a member of the Diligent Fire Engine Company was suddenly taken ill. He was taken to the nearby house of Mrs. Shoemaker. A physician was called for but he passed away at one o’clock. The physician pronounced his death to be caused by a congestion of the brain. He was buried at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Churchyard.
Mordecai Piersol’s remains were moved to Laurel Hill Cemetery on August 9, 1924.
Type Alley was changed to Pearl Street. It is located north of Vine Street.
