David Allen, October 30th, 1861
On the evening of October 30, 1865, an alarm of fire was sounded for a fire in the upper part of the city. When the Taylor Hose Company and the Northern Liberty Steam Fire Engine Company approached Frankford Road and Dauphin Street, David Allen, of the Taylor Hose Company, was running in the street, he stumbled and fell in front of the approaching apparatus. With no time to turn the horses, both pieces ran over him, killing him instantly.
David Allen was 26 years old and not married. His funeral was attended by the Taylor Hose Company and members of other fire companies. David Allen was buried in the Franklin Cemetery located at Pelham and Elkhart Streets, in the Kensington section of the city.
