Sean J. Williamson, June 18th, 2022

On June 18, 2022 at 1:52 am Box 443, at Third St and W. Indiana, Avenue was struck for a fire in at Star Pizza & Sea Food located at 3040 North 3rd Street.

Upon arrival companies found fire in the first-floor pizza shop and heavy smoke on the second and third floors. Residents were evacuating the building. The fire was brought under control at 2:18 am and overhaul operations commenced. At about 3:25 am the building collapsed without warning. Five Firefighters and one License & Inspections Inspector were trapped in the rubble of the building. Rescue operations started before the dust subsided. Battalion 8 requested a collapse response and then he struck the second alarm at 3:30 am.

Firefighters Robert Brennan Jr. and Dennis Daly were transported to Temple Hospital in critical condition.

Lieutenant Clarance Johnson, Lieutenant Sylvester Burton, and Inspector Thomas Rybakonski were taken to Temple Hospital where they were treated and released.

It wasn’t until about 6:30 am that Lieutenant Sean Williamson of Ladder 18, was pulled from the remains of the building. At 6:45 am he was pronounced dead.

Lt Williamson was working overtime at Ladder 3 on this day. Ladder 3 was first in ladder.

On June 29, the building owner was charged with one count of malicious damage by means of fire of a building used in interstate commerce resulting in death, and one count of aiding and abetting.
