Vincent M. Saraullo, October 9th, 1946

On Sunday, October 6, 1946, two separate alarms were struck for a serious fire in the two-story private dwellings located at 1318-1320 Moore Street, occupied by V. Una and M. Porpora. Box 327, 13th & Mifflin was struck at 11:57 AM, and Box 775, Broad and Moore was struck at 11:59 AM. Firemen made several daring rescues at this fire.

While responding, Engine 46 was struck by an automobile at the intersection of 2nd and Reed Streets. The driver of the automobile was William Vall, 17 years of age.

This collision turned the pumper completely around, and Hoseman Vincent M. Saraullo of Engine 46 was thrown from the apparatus. Hoseman Saraullo struck his head when he fell.

Several other firemen were also injured. The injured were removed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where Hoseman Saraullo died of his injuries three days later on October 9, 1946, just 101 days after he became a member of the fire department.

Hoseman Saraullo was 29 years old at the time of his death.
