Thomas Wannop, February 8th, 1969

On Friday, February 7, 1969 at 9:32 PM, Ladder Co. 13 responded to a special assignment on Box 5288, 49th and Pine Streets. This proved to be a false alarm.

At approximately 9:41 PM, Firefighter Thomas Wannop, Platoon “B”, Group 4, of Engine 73 (Detailed to Ladder Co. 13), was injured when he lost his balance and struck his head on the pavement while alighting from Ladder 13’s apparatus prior to the apparatus backing into the station at 50th and Baltimore Avenue. He was taken to Miseracordia Hospital in Rescue 3.

At approximately 12:20 AM on Saturday, February 8, 1969, Firefighter Thomas Wannop died of his injuries.
