Thomas A. Duane , July 16th, 1927

On Saturday, July 16, 1927 at 12:23 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 751, 30th and Market Streets, for a fire located in the footwalk of a bridge at 30th and Market.

While operating at this fire, Lieutenant Thomas A. Duane of Engine 5 accidentally struck a high-tension wire of about 20,000 volts. He sustained burns on his entire body and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he died a short time later.
