Robert C. Keyser , July 14th, 1909

On Tuesday, June 22, 1909 at 12:15 PM, Engine Company 20 responded to a Local Alarm for a fire in the seven-story brick building occupied by the Blum Brothers store located at 10th and Market Streets. The building was owned by the Harrision Estate.

While working at this fire, Assistant Foreman (Lieutenant) Robert C. Keyser of Engine Company 20 fell through a glass marquee and received a broken arm and internal injuries.

As a result of his injuries, Assistant Foreman Keyser died about three weeks later on July 14, 1909.

The cause of the fire was listed as “matches” but no fire loss was claimed.
