Paul Rein , January 12th, 1930

On the rainy night of Sunday, January 12, 1930 at approximately 5:35 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 5216, Meadow and Wolf.

While responding, Engine 10 was proceeding south on 3rd Street and Engine 49 was proceeding east on Snyder Avenue. At the intersection of 3rd Street and Snyder Avenue, the pumpers of both companies collided.

Both Hoseman Paul Rein of Engine 10 and Hoseman Daniel McGee of Engine 49 were severely injured.

Hoseman Rein was taken to St. Agnes Hospital and died while enroute to the hospital.

Hoseman McGee was placed in a red car and sent to the Methodist Hospital. Hoseman Sam Bees of Engine 3 was on his way to work and happened to witness the scene of the accident. He went in the red car with Hoseman Magee to render whatever help he could. Ironically as it may seem, the red car was involved in another collision at the intersection of 12th and Jackson Streets when it collided with an auto. In this accident Hoseman Sam Bees was severely injured and lost his right leg.

Hoseman Daniel McGee died of his injuries on March 11, 1930, about two months later.

This alarm proved to be a false alarm.
