Michael Iaquinta, February 28th, 1975

On Friday, February 28, 1975 at 5:37 PM, Box 1679, 9th & Glenwood was struck for a fire located at 901 Glenwood Avenue, a five, four-, and three-story brick and stone complex of buildings formerly occupied by the North American Lace Company. The first floor was occupied by the Fro Art Paper Company.

Engine 55 responded fourth in on the first alarm. While working with his company, Firefighter Michael Iaquinta of Engine 55 complained of chest pains. He was removed from the fireground and taken to the Temple Hospital by Rescue 4. He was pronounced dead on arrival by Doctor Kelsen at 7:48 PM.

By 7:04 PM, the fire had reached nine alarms. The fire was finally placed under control at 8:24 PM.

Firefighter Iaquinta also had three brothers who served in the Philadelphia Fire Department. Frank Iaquinta had attained the rank of Battalion Chief before his retirement. Brothers Dominic and Louis also served.
