Joseph Toner, December 16th, 1909

On Thursday, December 16, 1909 at 6:10 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 659, 15th and Callowhill Streets for a fire at Schrack and Sherwood Casket Manufacturers, a six-story building located at 1516-20 Callowhill Street.

At this fire, Hoseman Joseph Toner of Engine 18 suffocated to death. Seven employees of the firm also lost their lives.

The loss on this fire was over $250,000.
