John Peck, August 19th, 1894

On August 14, 1894, at 10:50 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 143, Ridge Avenue and Wissahickon Station, for a fire in a two-story frame stable located at the corner of Main and Sumac Streets, occupied by John Anderson and owned by S.S. Keely.

While at this fire, Foreman John Peck, of Engine 39, suffered serious injuries from “inhaling smoke and gas fumes.” Foreman Peck died of his injuries on August 19, 1894, just five days later.
