John P. McGowan, June 14th, 1915
On Monday, June 14, 1915 at 12:36 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 821, 15th and Mifflin Streets for a fire in the residence of Harry Slimsky, 1950 S. 15th Street.
While operating at this fire, Hoseman John P. McGowan of Engine 49 was overcome, while attempting to make a rescue.
He was removed from the building, collapsed on the sidewalk, and was removed to St. Agnes Hospital where he died a short time later.
