On Tuesday, June 22, 1915 at 2:57 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 3473,  2nd and Erie, for a fire in Potter’s Oil Cloth Company located at 2nd and Venango Streets.

During this fire, Ladderman John Hillman, Jr. of Truck 7, and Battalion Chief William F. James of the 6th Battalion were killed by a falling wall. Eleven other members of the fire department were also injured.
