On Thursday, March 1, 1894, at 10:10 PM, a local alarm was sounded for a fire located in a five story brick building at the NEC of 6th and Chestnut Streets. The building was occupied by offices of the Pennsylvania Railroad, offices of the Drexel Estate, and the Dalsimer Shoe Company.

During this fire, Hoseman James McFarland, of Engine 4, was injured and died.

The cause of the fire is “unknown” and the fire loss amounted to $667.00.
