Hugh McClintock , June 21st, 1876

On Saturday, March 4th, 1876, at 3:06 AM, an alarm was struck on box 41, 3rd & Market Streets, for a fire in Wood Marsh and Co’s five story brick dry goods warehouse located at 309-311 Market Street. Less than one month after his promotion, Assistant Engineer McClintock fell from the roof of 313 Market Street and sustained severe internal injuries.

Approximately three months later on June 21st, 1876, Assistant Engineer McClintock died from these injuries.

The cause of the three-alarm fire was recorded as “unknown” and the fire loss was set at $183,791.00.
