At 4:20 AM on Friday, March 21st, 1884, an alarm was sounded on Box 215 at Broad and Cayuga Streets for a fire in a 3-story dwelling occupied by Mr. A. H. Buckner.
Assistant Engineer Steigert (Battalion 3) responded with other companies. At Broad Street and Germantown Avenue the Assistant Engineer’s buggy collided with a butcher’s wagon. Hoseman Henry Williams, the Assistant Engineer’s driver, was thrown from the buggy and struck his head on a stone, he was seriously injured.
He died of his injury on Thursday, April 3, 1884
