Henry Piper, December 18th, 1928
On Tuesday, December 18, 1928, Battalion Chief Henry Piper of the 9th Battalion responded to an alarm for a fire located in the cellar of the home of John Dragon, 80 E. Ashmead Street.
Upon returning to Battalion Headquarters, then located at Truck 8’s station at Germantown Avenue and Bringhurst Street, Battalion Chief Piper was taken ill. He was taken to Germantown Hospital where he died shortly thereafter. His death was caused by heart failure.
