Frank Fredericks, October 13th, 1916

On Friday, October 13, 1916 at 8:51 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 1571, 9th and York Streets for a fire at the Quaker City Waste Company – a two-story brick building located at 913-19 W. York Street.

While operating at this fire, Ladderman Frank Fredericks of Truck 12 was working on the roof with several other firemen, when suddenly the roof gave way. The firemen were plunged into the collapsing mass of debris, however when rescuing parties reached them, it was found that Ladderman Fredericks had suffocated amidst the debris.

Ladderman Fredericks had been transferred to Truck 12 only 3 weeks before this unfortunate accident.
