Francis Woodruff, April 1st, 1944

On Saturday, April 1, 1944 at 12:11 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 1917, Germantown Avenue and Ruffner Street, for a fire in a vacant building located at 1654-56 Ruffner Street.

While operating at this fire, Hoseman Francis Woodruff of Engine 30 fell and struck his head on the pavement while stretching hose from the apparatus to the hydrant.

Hoseman Woodruff was taken to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was 31 years of age at the time of his death.
