On Tuesday, March 1st, 1892 at 8:56 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 91, 2nd & Market Streets for a fire at the W.A. Squire Awning Manufactory – a four-story brick building located at 205 Church Street.
Ladderman Francis M. Lowery of Truck “D” was seriously injured while responding when both of his legs were fractured between the ladders of the truck.
Just about 2 ½ months later on May 13, 1892, Ladderman Lowery died of these injuries.
The cause of the fire was supposedly “incendiary” with a fire loss of $352.
