Felix Donnelly , May 2nd, 1888

On Monday, April 2nd, 1888 at 6:33 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 3, 2nd & Dock Streets, for a fire in James B. Pooley’s four-story brick furniture warehouse located at 122 Walnut Street.

Hoseman Felix Donnelly, of Engine 8, was seriously injured when he was overcome by smoke and fell from a ladder upon which he was working. Several other firemen were also injured.

Hoseman Donnelly died while being taken to the Pennsylvania Hospital.

The cause of the fire was listed as “unknown” and the fire loss amounted to $11,934.75.
