William Woolston, February 4th, 1880

On Monday, February 2nd, 1880, at 7:34 AM, an alarm was struck on Box 242, Germantown Road and Girard Avenue, for a fire located in the J. Ebert National Furniture Manufactory, a three- and four-story brick building located at 1110-16 Edward Street, through to Lydia Street.

Hoseman William Woolson, of Engine 23, was seriously injured when he fell from the roof of a building on which he was working.

Two days later, on February 4, 1880, he died from these injuries.

The cause of the two-alarm fire was listed as “accident – boiler furnace”
