William H. Shane, December 11th, 1945

On Tuesday, December 11, 1945 at approximately 12:00 PM, Truck 12 responded to an alarm on Box 2189, 17th & Venango Streets, for a fire in the cellar and 1st floor of a one-story brick grocery store, occupied by Rothman Food Market on the southwest corner of 17th and Venago Streets.

While operating at this very smoky fire, Ladderman William H. Shane of Truck 12 was working with his company when he was overcome by smoke. He was taken to the Temple Hospital where he died later that day.
