Edward W. Krol, December 27th, 1949
On Tuesday, December 27, 1949 at 5:51 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 712, Front and Callowhill Streets for a fire in the Louis Pastner Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable house, a three-story brick building located at 117 Callowhill Street. This was a 2 alarm fire.
During the fire, the brick wall in the rear gave way, carried part of the roof with it, and injured five firemen in the mass of falling bricks and timbers.
The firemen were quickly removed, but Hoseman Edward W. Krol of Engine 6 died while en route to Jefferson Hospital.
Hoseman Krol was 35 years of age at the time of his death.
