David Struble, May 8th, 1943

On Saturday, May 8, 1943 at 1:47 PM, an alarm was sounded on Box 167, Frankford and Allegheny for a fire in Warner Brothers Allegheny Theatre, a five-story building located at 3141 Frankford Avenue.

The fire was located on the roof of he building and smoke could be seen as far as Camden, New Jersey. At the time of the fire, the movie “Shadow of a Doubt” had just begun, but all patrons were evacuated safely.

While fighting this fire, Lieutenant David H. Struble of Truck 10 collapsed. He was immediately taken to the Northeast Hospital where he died about an hour later.
