Charles Wendt, April 4th, 1955
On Monday, April 4, 1955 at 1:37 PM, Platoon “B” of Engine 58 responded to a large grass fire in the vicinity of Byberry and Academy.
Engine 58 had responded to assist Engine 18, Ladder 20, and Battalion 12 which had originally responded at 1:24 PM.
After approximately two hours duty, Captain Charles Wendt of Engine 58 collapsed from over-exertion. He was removed by Rescue 12 to the Nazareth Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:40 PM.
