Charles Stewart , February 12th, 1951

On Saturday, December 23, 1950 just after 4:00 PM, Box 4582 at 11th Street and Rising Sun Avenue, was pulled for a fire in the cellar of a two-story brick dwelling located at 3427 N. 10th Street.

During this fire, the gas meter blew off the wall, permitting gas to escape. Lieutenant Charles Stewart, of Engine Co. 50 was overcome by the gas fumes.

Lieutenant Stewart was taken to the Temple Hospital and was later transferred to the Philadelphia General Hospital.

On February 12, 1951 Lieutenant Stewart died of his injuries sustained in this fire.
