On Friday, March 3, 1911 at 10:43 AM, Engine 52 under the direction of Foreman George Cost responded to an alarm from Box 195, Orthodox and Pierce Streets for a fire in Gordon Brothers Hair Curling Mill, a 3-story stone and 2-story frame building located at the intersection of Orthodox and Pierce Streets in Frankford.
While fighting this fire, Hoseman Charles McClister of Engine 52 fell from a ladder and received two broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a fractured leg. He was taken to Frankford Hospital. Eight days later on March 11, 1911, Hoseman McClister died of his injuries.
