Allen Hacker, October 30th, 1952

On Thursday, October 30, 1952 at approximately 5:15 AM, Fireman Walter “Bud” Wright, while on duty, suffered a mental health emergency while in the station of Truck 8 and Rescue 4, located at Germantown Avenue and Bringhurst Street.

Fireman Wright shot and killed Fireman Allen Hacker of Truck 8, and seriously injured Fireman James Royds.

Ladderman Hacker’s father, Captain Charles Hacker, at that time was the Captain of Engine 9. Ladderman Hacker had two brothers, William and Adrian, who were also members of the fire department.
