Francis J. Doman, January 26th, 1942

On Monday, January 26, 1942 at 9:52 AM, an alarm was sounded on Box 6159, 15th Street and Wyoming Avenue, for a fire and explosion in the Charles Scheetner Gasoline Station, a one-story brick building located on the southeast corner of 15th and Belfield Streets.

While responding, at the intersection of Hunting Park Avenue and Clarissa Street, Engine 59 was involved in an accident with a Route 53 trolley car. Captain Eugene Smith, Hoseman Charles Mallon, Hoseman Francis Doman, Francis Kelly, Wilmer Boardman, and John McGlynn were all injured.

The injured firemen were rushed to Temple Hospital, where Hoseman Doman was pronounced dead on arrival.

As a result of this tragedy, just a few days later on February 11, 1942 Albert Camplin, the trolley car operator, committed suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun.
