George Dungan , March 12th, 1880

On Friday, March 12th, 1880, at 9:40 AM, while responding to an alarm of fire located in a 2 ½ story brick building at 218 Green Street (W. Schrepple’s Cigar Store), Ladderman George Dungan of Truck Co. “B” was caught between the truck and the station doors and was seriously injured. He died a short time later of his injuries.

The cause of the fire was listed as “child with matches”

A little more than 16 years later, on July 27th, 1896, Ladderman George Dungan’s son entered the fire department and years later served as both Ladderman and Captain of Truck Co. No. 2, the same company in which his father was killed.
