George McConaghy , July 23rd, 1928
On Monday, July 23, 1928 at approximately 5:30 AM, Battalion Chief George McConaghy, who was acting as Deputy 1 on this shift, responded to an alarm of fire in the vicinity of 12th Street and Montgomery Avenues. After which he returned to his quarters at Engine 29’s station, at 4th Street and Girard Avenues, and went back to bed.
When his driver, Hoseman George Nessner, went to wake him at approximately 8:00 AM he found that Chief McConaghy had died sometime between his return and 8:00 AM.
